‘Blue Fortune’ is a sterile hybrid between our native Anise Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) and the Korean Agastache rugosa. It was bred for its long, floriferous bloom period and more compact shape than the straight species. It will spread locally by rhizomes but does not set viable seed. Pollinators of all kinds still flock to the flowers of ‘Blue Fortune’ for the delicious nectar they provide. This less aggressive cultivar is great to use for drifts in a perennial border or as a tidy filler for difficult, neglected sites in full sun. Like the straight species, its leaves can be used to make a delicious anise-flavored tea.
