Chicagoland Green® Boxwood is an easy to grow, reliable and classic broadleaf evergreen shrub. It has a dense, compact, broad-oval habit with deep, emerald green foliage during the growing season that retains its color reliably through the winter months. This variety is exceptionally cold hardy and can withstand subzero temperatures without dieback. The growth rate is relatively slow at less than 6″ per year.
This is a carefree evergreen shrub which resembles the time-honored English Boxwood. It is a useful plant for formal gardens, manicured box hedges, topiary or container accents, and foundation plantings. However, it does not require any pruning or shearing to maintain its uniform rounded shape. The naturally shaggy texture of an unsheared Chicagoland Green® Boxwood fits right in with more naturalistic garden styles and offers virtually maintenance-free, year round color to the landscape!
