Description
Sweetgrass is a native, cool-season grass that prefers to grow in wet places. It spreads readily from rhizomes to form colonies of sweet-smelling foliage which retains the characteristic vanilla scent even after it is dried. This is an important ceremonial plant to Native American cultures. The seed heads which appear in late spring dangle daintily over the foliage in a pendulous fashion.
