‘Holmstrup’ is a cultivated variety of our native American Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis.) It was selected for its dense, conical form with compact branching which requires no pruning to maintain its tidy columnar shape. The rich, bright green foliage keeps its color throughout the year. The growth rate is between 6-12″ per year, resulting in a specimen that measures 8-10 feet tall and about 2 feet wide within ten years. The mature size of this dwarf cultivar is 10-15′ tall by 2-3′ wide. It is a good choice for a low-maintenance, vertical accent in smaller gardens or for massing in a hedge for screening. They also provide winter interest to perennial and shrub borders and foundation plantings.
