Chicago Lustre® is a cultivated variety of our native Arrowwood Viburnum (Viburnum dentatum). This variety was derived from a seedling found at the Morton Arboretum and was introduced by Synnestvedt Nursery (hence the cultivar name). It has glossy, dark green foliage during the spring and summer which turns red to reddish purple in fall. This cultivar produces a heavier crop of fruit than the straight species. Planting at least two separate individuals of the same species of Viburnum helps with cross-pollination and can result in heavier fruit production. This is a moderately fast-growing shrub which will reach its mature size of 12′ tall by 10′ wide within ten years.
