| One of our goals when we transitioned from our old location to Curve Rd was to establish a better means of production for our plants and become our own seed-grown source for a much larger percentage of our inventory. Thanks to the extra space and our amazing new hoop house, this process is well underway. |

| When seedlings and cuttings are just starting their growth, they are much more susceptible to wind, sun, and even forceful rainfall. The hoop house allows us to grow these delicate plants in a much more controlled environment, protecting them from the harsh elements they might otherwise face. So far, our seedlings are thriving in the filtered light that they receive. |

| With this new resource, we have been more focused than ever on collecting our own seed from local, trusted sources. This will allow us to grow many more local ecotype plants as well, that are genetically closer to the plants we’d find growing in the wild in central Ohio instead of those with genetic lineages from elsewhere in the country. Though we are still in the heat of the summer, many native plants have “gone to seed” and are ready for collecting. Until we’re ready to plant them, they will be kept safe in refrigerated storage to keep them fresh. Some seeds, like those of many spring ephemeral flowers, can go bad quite quickly if they aren’t planted or refrigerated immediately. Soon though, we’ll start planting those that need our cold, damp Ohio winters to germinate so that they can start growing first thing next spring. While it will take some time before any of these young plants are rooted in and ready to install in your gardens, we are already so excited by our progress and what our new facilities are capable of.
